"The clouds" I said. "Look at the clouds"
and held him up so he could see,
but how was he to know what out there
I meant by "clouds"; how could I have explained?
One day he'll know.
One day, no doubt, he'll learn as I have done,
but holding him and pointing up I had no thought of that,
and now I wish he'll never know how clouds
can hide the sun.
